This site was started a few years ago to find how our ancestors lived and worked. We never realized that tracing these relatives would be a never ending quest, sometimes researching the wrong people for a matter of months before realizing the mistake. We discovered ‘dark and hidden ‘secrets, ancestors being transported to Australia for a petty crime and another imprisoned for poaching.

Many people begin to research their families and soon realize just what a huge task they’ve set themselves but with a lot of perseverance and a lot of help from friends and relatives the whole task becomes almost obsessive but enjoyable when the bits of research start coming together to form our history. The uses of various family history search engines are absolutely necessary tools in the quest you’ve set yourself. The search engines store information such as census results dating from 1841 to 1911, birth death and marriages records and from churches come a wealth of christening and burial records. Take care with the misspelling of surnames which often happens, usually due to local accents being. Also the questioning of relatives for information regarding their knowledge of older relatives names and in most cases they love to give out this information but beware of being quite innocently taken astray with some of the stories that you hear. Travelling to relatives birthplaces can sometimes return valuable information retrieved from the local churchyards. Most towns have Local Family History Museums where you’ll find the staff are most helpful and always willing to explain ways to help your quest.

We wish you happy searching and remember that if you help other like people they will help you.
